I’ve been waiting months to share this exchange with a journalist at a major business publication.
I love this example because it shows a journalist’s reaction to the same core content: one based on the typical bulldoze pitch, and the second reflecting storytelling techniques.
Here’s the first volley.
This was probably my worse pitch since the turn of the century.
What was I thinking?
In a word –
Fortunately, I got a lucky with the journalist who, in spite of my incompetence, left the door slightly ajar.
Check out the second volley.
Same story, but in round two I shifted away from the product and showed a potential angle underpinned by humanity.
The happy ending came in the form of the journalist interviewing the client and writing the story.
