I understand the pressure on the White House communications team to come up with something, anything, to show Americans that Trump deserves a second term.
Rather than field questions from pesky journalists, it stands to reason they would brainstorm ways to go on the offensive.
Offer free chalupas at Taco Bells in the battleground states.
Create a music video starring Ivanka doing a riff on Gangnam style.
Distribute research on the destructive nature of being nice.
All “fine” ideas in keeping with the Trump brand and sure to garner some attention. Yet, they did not choose any of these inspirations.
Instead, the White House went with a tactic that has been around 114 years. Yesterday, they sent out a news release headlined: “Trump Administration Releases Science and Technology Accomplishments from First Term.”
At this point I’m thinking that I’m about to read the typical Trump drivel lauding the wall at the border of Mexico, how he channels Abe Lincoln and the “packed house” at his inauguration.
Instead, the news release highlights:
- “ENDING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC (ALL UPPER CAPS IN THE OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE): From the outset of the COVD-19 pandemic, the Administration has taken decisive actions to engage scientists and health professionals in academia, industry and government, to treat and defeat the disease.”
Have these people lost any semblance of reality?
Has this president lost any semblance of reality?
With deaths in the U.S. from Covid-19 closing in on 230,000, new cases are once again spiking with many states hitting all-time highs.
I’ve come across crazy statements in news releases over my career. This one from the White House is the all-time craziest.
That’s right Mr. President, you’re number one.
P.S. Of course, this is the same president who thought teachers should have a gun handy in the classroom.
